Thefts

For those of you with oil storage tanks please note there has been theft of heating oil in the Kilmington area.   In our own area there has been theft of fishing and garden equipment from a garden shed and the theft of a quad bike.  PLEASE BE VIGILANT.  REPORT ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS and don't forget to mark all your property.  Etching pens available from Libby Dibble (01297 34116).  This is really helpful to the police and could lead to your property being returned.

Septic Tanks

Many of you will have read that you will need to register your septic tank with the Environmental Agency if you are not connected to mains sewerage.  The new rules are due to come into force January 2012 to all those with a septic tank which discharges either to soak-away drains or to water courses.

I have had several persons contact me regarding this legislation;  I assure you this is not so.  Defra and the Environmental agency are at this time reviewing the policy.  All small domestic, properly maintained sewage systems which are not causing pollution and which discharge less that two cubic metres per day - which is the equivalent of nine people living in a single property - will not have to register.

I trust this allays the fears of those who have made this enquiry.

Mrs Shelagh Barnard, Clerk to the Parish Council
