As the festive season carries on, we’re celebrating not just togetherness but sustainability.
The Environmental Group has been running for just over a year and we’ve tried a range of activities to appeal to everyone.
We began with our popular Seed Swap, followed by a Seedling Swap. This was to encourage neighbours to share what they grow, to reduce waste, and support local biodiversity.
Our litter pick brought volunteers together to keep our green spaces clean and cared for. There will be some more planned for 2026 but, if you fancy doing your own little area we have litter pickers that you can borrow.
We embraced ‘No Mow May’, letting wildflowers bloom to support bees and other pollinators. An area was set aside on the old cricket field to showcase this and we hope to see more wildflowers and wildlife in the future.
This communal area will hopefully become more central to the community as time goes on with wild flower planting, bird and bat boxes and nature walks.
A standout moment was our Gala Day, with Martin’s hand-crafted bird boxes which were a huge success. These boxes will be providing safe nesting spots for our birds. Thank you, Martin, and to everyone who contributed or bought one.
Trellis and sweetpeas made the front of the Old Cricket Pavilion look (and smell) lovely, together with other annual plants. Thanks to Kathy and others who grew them and planted them up .
We know the world’s carbon footprint is still growing, and tackling climate change can feel overwhelming.
But, every seed planted, every patch of wildflowers left to grow, and every piece of litter collected is a reminder that small steps matter. Together, they reduce our impact and show that change is possible when communities act with care.
Looking ahead, we’re planning more of the same plus hoping to have inspiring speakers and a “World Café” social, where you can share your ideas and hopes for addressing climate change in ways that feel practical and positive.
It’s a season of joy, action, and connection and we’re proud to grow it together.

Thank you all for your support and Happy Christmas!

With love and best wishes for 2026 from Diana, Ian, Jo, Martin and Rita
