The All Saints Archery Club enjoyed another splendid afternoon of bows, arrows and friendly rivalry, rounded off with a picnic and the presentation of the “Most Improved” trophies.
Congratulations to Andy Bowman and Sam Fletcher, joint winners of the Men’s Most Improved trophy, and to Lynne Fletcher, winner of the Ladies’ Most Improved trophy. 🏆
Unfortunately, our special guest – Margaret Lench – was unable to attend to present the trophies, but Jim Walsh stood in and did a great job of hand-shaking.
Clearly all that archery practice is paying off – the golds are being hit with increasing regularity and the local shrubbery can finally begin to relax. The metal detector is being used less and less!
The club is run by Ken Vile and meets at the All Saints recreation field every Tuesday afternoon at 2pm (weather permitting). Ken looks after the safety aspects of shooting and blows a mean whistle.
Everyone is welcome, from seasoned archers to complete beginners. For beginners, all equipment is provided, so you don’t need to own a longbow (though some do!), wear Lincoln green or have previously served with the Merry Men.
And unlike Robin Hood, there’s no requirement to rob the rich, give to the poor or live in Sherwood Forest. Just come along, pick up a bow and have a go! Tuition is provided if required.
Good company, fresh air, friendly competition and the occasional cry of “Where did that arrow go?” – followed, when the occasion demands it, by a picnic. 🏹🧺
