80 Years since the end of World War II
September 13th
All Saints Saturday Pavilion and Cricket Field
from 2pm to 9pm
In Europe we celebrate May 8th as our end to World War II. However, many of our troops were still fighting against the Japanese or held as POWs in the Far East. The War with Japan didn’t finish until August 14th 1945 with the official end of WWII on September 2nd 1945. So, our September 13th event is to commemorate the actual end to the War!
We are being supported by many community groups to enable us to enjoy this event throughout the afternoon and evening.
All Saints CofE Primary School will be running some children’s games that were played during the 1940s.
The Council’s Environment Group will be manning a stand with bird box making kits and a plethora of knowledge of how to help our feathered wildlife.
Members of the Council and volunteers will be running various “sporting” challenges from a Boules competition, to Wellie “Wanging” and a Tug-o’-War. You may organise teams ahead of the day or just turn up and ‘have a go’!
Teas and coffees will be provided by the Council’s volunteers who put on our monthly coffee mornings at the pavilion.
Bring along your Teddy – we will have a pseudo “Teddy Bear’s Picnic” at about 4pm so anyone of any age can bring along their much loved companion and join in the merriment of a few songs, led by one of our choir members, to celebrate our childhoods and of course our teddy’s.
We are also grateful to All Saints Party Planners who have volunteered to organise and provide a bar throughout the event.
We will be providing a vegetable curry or hot dogs to tide you over between the afternoon’s fun and frolics and the evening entertainment.
The Proms in the evening will see local talent performing a variety of contemporary music and songs along with some war-time favourites. Come along and enjoy The Windy Bowers, other talented individuals and join in with the All Saints Community Choir.
Entry (and activities) is free with all profits going towards the pavilion and field improvements. Food and drink is chargeable!
