Thank you everybody for a brilliant Gala Day!
Our first thanks must go to the weather gods for ensuring that the afternoon remained dry and sunny.
Children, mums and dads, aunties, uncles, grans, grandads, parishioners and folk from Axminster all turned up to enjoy the sunshine and have a go on the various games around the field. The School’s Head teacher and leaders from Wise Owls ran a variety of games made by the Axminster Community Shed. There was a lot of interest at the British Legion and Heritage Centre stalls and we were honoured to have their presence.
Lots of interest too for the WWII Scammel Tank Transporter provided by Simon Duff. It was lovely to see, especially the children’s faces when a tombola prize was won and there were various bird boxes on show from the ASPC Environmental Group and people picked up their pre-orders. Visitors were able to get tea, coffee and home made cakes provided by our Parish Clerk, Linda Ledingham, and her team of helpers and there was a bar provided by Smallridge Party Planners.
The pavilion look resplendent with Union Flag bunting and now sporting the special commemorative quilt made by the All Saints Quilters.
With the threat of inclement weather later on, the evening Proms was held in the Village Hall. The team of performers decorated the stage with curtains and lights to give a festival atmosphere.
We also moved the hot food from the pavilion to the hall and we have to say that the home-made vegetable curry, prepared by our Clerk, Linda, received many comments of the delicious variety. Hot Dogs were also on offer for those who don’t partake of too many vegetables! Great thanks to Linda and her team of helpers, who served us all with a smile!
The Proms showed off the talent we have in our small parish with renditions of operatic arias, show songs, instrumentals, contemporary numbers and a sketch that would have put “Dad’s Army” to shame, all ending up with a community sing-a-long.
Thanks must also go again to Brian who ran the bar on behalf of the Party Planners, initially at the pavilion and then moved the bottles, etc. to the hall, to continue his service there and a big thank you too to everyone who helped in the overall preparation and decoration to create a truly commemorative atmosphere. Thanks also to those who came along on Sunday morning to help with the clearing up.
So it’s a BIG Thank You to everybody !
